HOMEOWNER IN WHITE MARLIN BEACH SINCE 1997 Lower Matecumbe is one of 4 Keys in the Village of Islamorada; the other Keys are Upper Matecumbe, Windley Key and Plantation Key. Located between mile marker 74 - 79; the island is mostly residential properties, with a few motels, gas stations, restaurants and marinas. This is what I call the suburbs of Islamorada - we are away from the hustle and bustle of Upper Matecumbe. With Lower Matecumbe only 5 miles long, it makes for quick access to the ocean or bay. There is Channel 5 bridge with a 65' clearance for the offshore fishing boats or the sailboats. Smaller run-about boats have an option of 5 bridges to navigate through. The Intercoastal Waterway can be seen from the bayside properties as well as the Everglades National Park. 
"The Wheel Ditch," mangrove cut-thru from Lower Mat. to Upper Mat. We moved to the Keys in 1996 to work for one winter. As the old saying goes..."came down on vacation and stayed for the duration..." Working in the watersports industry prompted me to get my captain's license, which I have had since 1997. I have been navigating these waters ever since!
