Brown, Brown Run Aground - Islamorada Real Estate

Staying alert when navigating the waters around the Florida Keys is a must. Although most areas are marked with channel markers, there are areas that require local knowledge. The tidal difference between high and low are a couple of feet. Except for twice a month, when there is a new moon or a full moon - then the tidal difference is known as an extreme high tide or low tide - which could add another 6' - 12' on top of the normal tide. Here is a little rhyme to help you navigate the waters -

Brown, brown run aground

White, white you just might

Blue, blue cruise on through

In my opinion, Islamorada has the best boating! There are a number of bridges which offer cut throughs from ocean side to bay side. To navigate from one side to the other is only a matter of minutes no matter where you are. Where Islamorada has 4 habitable islands, that are approximately 4 miles long each, Key Largo offers a different scenario. The island of Key Largo is approximately 16 miles long. There are 3 cut throughs - Jewfish Creek on the North end, Adams Cut located at mile marker 103 and Tavernier Creek on the South end.
